Betty must have been aware of these advertisements and, to clear the doubt, she carried the copy of a magazine on which the advert was published. However, as the conversation goes on, she realizes that the advert was bait, and she had already been baited. She was undoubtedly in the stage of being switched to another substitute truck which was more costly. Her travel efforts, therefore, had no bearing that the dealer would be honest to the advert. In fact, it would be useful when switching Betty because th e journey had costed her. The goal of bait and switch advertising is to have buyers buy substitute goods as a way of avoiding disappointment over not getting the bait (Johar, 1996). Moreover, this trick is used as a way to recover the costs expended in trying to obtain the bait (Dingell, 1996). In this case, Tony has no intention of producing the advertised pickup track but instead will produce an expensive pickup track if not a similar one with a higher price margin. When Tony said over the phone â€Å"three thousand dollars firm,† explain whether or not he was making an offer that, if accepted, would bind the dealership in contract It would be futile to think that what Tony promised to Betty, over the phone, was what he meant. Since he was I a calculated mission of baiting his client, it means he could do anything pleasant to ensure that Betty gets into the dealership and buy a substitute truck (Johar, 1996). It seems that Tony just said it for formality and he cannot have the contract bidding for two reasons. First, Betty was not initially on her way to consummate this promise. She was rather going to buy a pickup track advertised by the dealership and whose deal was attractive. Secondly, Tony had not seen the old Ford pickup and he can prove that he never meant to buy something he had not seen. That is, probably, why Tony responded, by stating that they would have to look at it first. Considering that Betty just joked that the old Ford pickup, with its original parts all rattling is a nuisance to his journey, Tony could have also joked that he would buy it at three thousand dollars. Therefore, his offer, whether accepted or not cannot in any way bid the dealership in contract (Lee, 2000). Finally, Tony’s promise on the phone cannot be presumed binding in law and intentions. Scrooge is like a magpie, he has so much money but just likes hording it, he doesnt try to make his life more comfortable or indeed anyone elses, he just likes having in his possession. On Christmas Eve as Cratchit was getting ready to leave Scrooge exclaimed in an accusing accusation manner that Cratchit would be wanting Christmas off I suppose . . . which Cratchit replayed to as politely as possible that indeed he would be wanting Christmas off. Scrooge got quite angry, at the fact that he would have to pay a days wages without getting any work done. To which Cratchit replied that it was only once a year. A poor excuse for picking a mans pocket every twenty-fifth of December! Said Scrooge, buttoning his greatcoat to the chin. But I suppose you must have the whole day. Be here all the earlier next morning! This just shows how Scrooge has not one drop of Christmas Spirit or charity. He doesnt take in to account that Bob Cratchit is very hard working, doesnt complain, works in terrible conditions and puts up with a deplorable wage even for Victorian times, and in return he asks for one day off a year so he can spend a day with his family. You can see from this that Dickens was putting a strong contrast between the selfish miserly Scrooge, and the loving, caring Bob Cratchit. He isnt even slightly embarrassed that he isnt giving to the poor and being so rude to the gentlemen. He is just so convinced that these people are scum, and as far as he is concerned he would prefer it if they were dead to decrease the surplus population. In Stave 1 Marley who was Scrooges good and only friend as an adult, visits Scrooge as a ghost. Marley has a very meaningful message for Scrooge it is a very big part in Dickens message that he is trying to convey throughout the book. In the book when Marley comes to Scrooge he explains that if we do not make the most of our lives on earth, by giving, sharing etc then we have to do so after death, we have to wander the world regretting not helping and being a good person wanting to help but not being able to do so and never being to rest for eternity. That the spirit within him should walk abroad among his fellow men, and travel far and wide; and if that spirit goes not froth in life, it is condemned to do so after death. Also that the spirit cannot be happy because its not aloud to rest, stay of linger anywhere it has to watch what it could have had done on earth. Doomed to wander through the world oh, woe is me! And witness what it cannot share, but might have shared on earth, and turned to happiness! Marley then goes on to talk about his chain that has a very strong meaning as well. Fezzywig was Scrooges employer from when he left school. Fezzywig is a popular and vibrant, generous man as well as an employer. Fezzywig shows what power an employer has. He has the power to make his employers content and happy or make their lives hard and desperate. Fezzywig was famous for his Christmas parties. A good example of Fezzywigs character is nearly every good but often poor person was welcome to his parties. Fezzywig knew that it wasnt the amount of money you have that makes you a good or a bad person but whats inside the person that counts. This moral Dickens clearly puts across in this stave when the ghost of Christmas Past, shows Scrooge how Fezzywig made a difference, it wasnt on a worldly scale but it had an effect on all the people that worked for him, it made there lives better and easier. Compared to Scrooge who doesnt care about anyone and how as a consequence his employee was having a hard life, unnecessarily. The lesson was that treat others how you would wont to be treated and how even the smallest kind acts can make a difference on a much larger scale. This is why Scrooge says to the Ghost He has the power to render us happy of unhappy; to make our service light or burdensome; a pleasure or toil. Scrooge then goes and says The happiness he gives, is quite as great as if it cost a fortune. The ghost of Christmas present showed Scrooge the Cratchit family. (The family of Bob Cratchit, Scrooges employee.) The ghost took Scrooge here to watch just how loving, caring and happy this family was in spite of being very poor, due to Scrooge paying Bob Cratchit an appalling wage. The whole family love and cherish each other, even though can hardly afford enough food for them all, and Tiny Tim the youngest is a cripple. Peter might have known, and very likely did, the inside of a pawnbroker. But they were happy, grateful, pleased with one another, and contented with the time; This family shows so many lessons that Scrooge at this point in the storey needed to learn. Through the Cratchit family Dickens conveys quite an important message. The Cratchits show, that money doesnt bring happiness, and there are more important things that money; like family and love. Despite all their problems, they are happy. Compared to Scrooge who is very well off for the time, but is a miserable, cold man who nobody loves. From this Scrooge started to realise what he was missing out on and how wrong he had been, thinking that the poor were worthless. This is shown in the book when Scrooge asks the ghost if Tiny Tim will live and the ghost shoots back at him his own words. If he be like to die, he had better do it, and decrease the surplus population. Tiny Tim is a very strong character. Dickens is trying to show through him about appertaining what you have and to make the most of life. Even though Tiny Tim is a cripple and doesnt have long to live he is still happy and unselfish. He is showing what every good Christian should be like. After the Cratchit family the ghost showed Scrooge other people across the world that are in very desperate situations, with hardly anything to keep them happy or in good spirit. But just the fact that its Christmas gives them hope. The ghost takes Scrooge to the hut of a miners, the keepers of the light house, who wish each other a Merry Christmas because its the one thing they can hold on to, the ship at sea reminds them of their families at home and at Scrooges nephews home everyone is cheerful even though they are not well off and are playing games reminding Scrooge of his youth, sickbeds, foreign lands, Almshouses, hospitals and jails. From the folding of the Ghost of Christmas Presents robes came two children. These children were wretched, abject, frightful, hideous, miserable, The ghost told Scrooge that these children were Mans. This is because man hasnt helped and just watches them grow in society. There boy is ignorance and the girl is want. The ghost said to watch out for them, but most of all to watch out for the boy because on his forehead it says Doom, unless something is done about it, this is because Ignorance breeds doom. Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing is eased. Dickens is putting another message across here; by ignoring these children it will just get worse and worse, which will spiral out of control. It is mans duty to help the ignorant and the poor because they are mans future. Ignore them and have a bad future with greed, poverty etc or deal with them and prosper in the future. After the ghosts have left Scrooge wakes up to find that its Christmas day, he has now leant all his lessons. He jumps out of bed because he realises how lucky he is in everyway and that hes lucky that the ghosts did visit him because he still has time to redeem himself and make up for lost time. He realises he wont be able to change things like Belle and so forth but that he can help in many ways. The first thing he does is get the biggest and the best turkey and sends it to the Cratchits. He then goes to his nephew Freds house to celebrate Christmas with them, because he now realised that Christmas was far from a humbug. From that moment on Scrooge changed and became the best man he could be. Scrooge was better than his word. He became as good a friend, as good a master, and as good a man, as the good old city knew. In conclusion to this essay, the message to A Christmas Carol that Dickens is trying to convey in all the different ways is mainly that we are equal, nobody is more important than anyone else even if one person is a millionaire and the other lives on the streets. That we should love and look out for each other Love thy neighbour as thyself. After all, this book is also about Christmas spirit and to be a good Christian. To give to the less fortunate then yourself. Also that money cant make happiness that happiness can be found by being a good person and to love everyone no matter what there situation is. We should live our lives to the full and be grateful for what we have, and not always wishing we had more therefore never being content with what we do have. There is always someone worse off than ourselves. That being selfish and greedy, gets us nowhere, which one day we will regrette. But that its never to let to change and help others.

He murdered people in cold-blooded fashion and raped women when they were dead. What makes a human being do this may tell us a lot about criminals and humans themselves. In this paper I will try and analyze some of the core issues that lie at the heart of this story. Why did Ballard do what he did, to what extent is he responsible and what should have been his punishment. From birth, Lester Ballard seemed to have been cursed with misfortune. His mother had run away from home when he was an infant and his father hung himself when he was about nine or ten years old. Lester actually had to see his father hanging from the ceiling. That would leave a permanent scar on any child, including Ballard, as the author notes, "They say he never was right after his daddy killed hisself." (21) From then on, Ballard seems to have gone where life took him. What he suffered from was a total lack of awareness. Ballard was a well before he understood what that word meant and he never learned the concept in his entire life. He did not know what things meant, did not even know what happened. Every signal he got from the outside community was telling him that he did not belong there, that he was not accepted. Even when Ballard enters a church service, a setting where people are accepted and loved, he was rejected for who he was. People spoke about him in whispers, "A windy ruffle of whispers went among them." (31). His community, through rejection victimized Ballard. Rejection may well be the most potent form of victimization since it cuts off the air to out most cherished need of connection and love. Connecting Ballard's background and childhood to his crimes is a difficult task. Other than his parents, we are not told too much about what else he went through when he was a child. From the bizarre nature of his crimes, he seems to have to have been through intense suffering and agony. A lot of his crimes were committed against women. He raped women, but only after killing them. A living woman might have been too much for Ballard to handle; the risk of rejection would have been too great for him.

? New Zealand English (NZE) which is now known as â€Å"New Zild† is an exciting and newfangled language they speak in New Zealand. New Zild is forever evolving-forming new, abbreviated ways of speech. Their shared language – Te Reo/English makes up their unique, lucid dialect, which unites them as a country and distinguishes them from the rest of the world, this is a great aspect as their language will be fancied in the future. New Zealand English is the newest most fascinating language in the world today. New Zild is the only language that can be tracked since its birth over two centuries ago. The dialogue is forever evolving, changing and advancing. New Zealand English is a continuously developing speech. What makes this language so exclusive is that you can use available resources to show the developing and unfurling of it. Although characteristic features of New Zealand English have evolved from British English, there are no longer any dominant influences. New Zild forms and illustrates a Kiwi, who creates their own language, being New Zild. Their strong accent is greatly noticed overseas. Foreigners find New Zild bizarre, as they talk faster than, they do. Although New Zealand English is closely related Australian English also known as ‘strine’ but they have their individuality, as New Zealanders do. America has major influence in all the languages, including New Zild. American English is the most influential language of the world. The trends it sets are spread by mass communications around the globe, for example, television, movies and music. American English can have a negative impact depending on the kind of influence being portrayed, for example, teenagers listening to rap music, the lyrics or words expressed may have meaning, but would their parents like them talking like the rapper? American English also has a positive impact on New Zild as it creates new characteristics and majorly influences the development of New Zealand English. The American English greatly affects young New Zealanders as they may speak an even stranger language than their elders. Their speech has been hugely influenced which all contributes to the future. The dialect of the younger population is different, therefore change naturally occurs. New Zealand’s younger generation being teenagers forms many, new colloquialisms, increasing yet decreasing their vocabulary. According to Jennifer Hay in Denis Welch’s Listener article, â€Å"By the time someone is seven or eight, it doesn’t matter where their parents came from, they’re speaking like their friends at school. † Older New Zealanders are trying to adapt to the teenage dialect, after all they are the voices of the future. Their dialogue will be the future New Zealand’s English, as the new vocabulary, colloquialisms work their way from the bottom of the social heap to the top. The tremendous variety of languages composed in New Zealand is another impact. New Zild is an exciting language as it includes an assortment of influences from these solitary vocal influences. Maori have changed the way New Zealanders speak because words and sayings from Te Reo have been absorbed into the vocabulary spoken today. There are some Maori who can speak both English and Maori beautifully. Years ago only 1/1000 Maori words spoken were fully understood in New Zealand English, now 6/1000 Te Reo words spoken are understood in New Zealand English. Could this be renaissance? Including Te Reo, there is also one other contributing factor to New Zealand English, such as Pacific Island dialect. Beware the Cat Essay In Beware the Cat, William Baldwins immediate target is Catholicism. This book is one of many anti-catholic satires that appeared during Edward VIs Protestant reign. In this story Baldwin goes beyond putting down the practices of the Church of Rome and exposes some of its foundational problems. He portrays, satirically, how knowledge is obtained and passed down in the church. At this time the culture was going through a transition from a largely oral and visual way of communicating to one based on text. The whole idea of Protestantism is about having a personal relationship with God and not relying on someone else to read the Bible for you. But what about those that didnt have access to a Bible? Again, people were left to rely on the church and the traditions that were being passed down. The trouble with traditions is that after so long, one cant be certain of their origin. We see a debate being set up in the story about where true authoritative knowledge comes from. From the Protestant view, the trouble with that is these traditions and stories can and do mislead the devout christian. In the beginning of the book in The Argument, Streamer disagrees with the author on what makes up knowledge; whether it is gained by experiences or authors (the reading of textual evidence). In Streamers Oration we see that he gets off track a number of times as he tries to begin his story. We find him wandering from gate to gate, talking about about how the gates got their names. It is evident that he doesnt quite know where or how to begin his story. The use of the word gate is exceptional because Streamer is truly searching for an entrance for his story line. Because he cant seem to find it, it foreshadows the fact that Streamers knowledge, as we come to find out, really has no origin of its own. Baldwin uses another play on words with the word Criplegate and cripple, foreshadowing again that Streamers kind of reasoning has crippled him. We read that Streamers experience with cats is based on other peoples stories about cats, and that their stories are based on yet another series of stories. Here Baldwin is demonstrating how Catholicism has passed down tories and oral traditions over time and we never really know the origin of these stories and traditions well enough to prove them. It also shows the reader that these kinds of stories simply lead to more stories and it ends up being uncontrolled and unmonitored. He then questions if having this experience based knowledge is truly having knowledge at all. Baldwin is building the story up in a rational way, for example, suggesting that the cats use human transportation and by suggesting that they revenge the death of Grimalkin, forming a close knit society, again alluding to the Catholic church. What we read about in Part I sort of comes to life in Part III as the animals take over the narration of the story. They begin to tell tales of their vast experiences with humans. They show us a world where humans are an easy mark (where the wife believes that the cat is old womans daughter) and preposterous (where the sound of Mouse-Slayers feet brings panic to a town). In Part I we read about preying animals and Part III is then dealing with preying humans. The old woman takes advantage of the young men, then they take advantage of others in order to keep paying the old woman, in order to spend time with the girls. This vicious cycle is representative of the Roman Church because she (the old woman), like the church, prospers from deceiving people and enticing them to do harmful acts in order to get her money. She is also making the young men psychologically dependent on her in a way, again, not unlike the church. In this work were able to see what happens in a religion and in a culture where written text plays a minor role and also when oral communication (traditions, passed down stories) is left uncontrolled by any textual authority.

In lesson 1 we demonstrated our perception of Dig and Marky through physicalising there characters. The aspects of the drama medium we used were, freeze frame, improvisation, thought track, mime, movement and gesture. As a class we read and comprehended pages 5-21. They’re about Markey and dig interchanging there burglarized items. After we read through the play, sir split us into 2 groups. One group: Markys, One group: Digs. We had to show a scene from their morning routine (in the shop). I got put into the group of Dig, I interpreted Dig in a behaviour which was to procrastinate. I conducted Dig in lifeless ,manner. I showed that dig was lazy by my use of drama medium (movement) and acting skills. My actions were very postponing and sluggish letting the audience know , my character was extremely careless. I played Dig in a careless, lifeless manor, because from the play we know that he is very self-centred and in ones self. In lesson 6 we had to summarise how each character might feel about the murder. In lesson 6, we used guilt spilt staging, voice & contrasts, We used one of the forms of stimuli of ‘play scripts’ . In the play script we explored the line ‘ I told him not to come back didn’t I mel’ to understand how all the characters feel guilty. The characters feel guilty because marky has been murdered. All the characters feel conscience-stricken and guilt ridden. The script changes throughout the ending of the play it raises the tension by shortening the dialogue. The characters speech becomes shortened and there words become more scarce and sudden . We then did a police interview by the use of drama medium ; split staging. Split staging can use two or more different levels, and the audience can see characters better if one group is behind the other and using the raised level. Me and shea was the police officers interviewing dig and sophie which in this case was Hodan and Arthur. We asked them questions such as , how do you feel about the death of markey ? They replied with very abrupt replies as we know thy was very heartbroken about the tragic news. In lesson 3 we had to explore characters reactions to the morning of the murder. The drama mediums we used were hot seating, role play , characterisation, action, plot content. We read pages 22-28 . Then we hot seated marky, dig, leon , taylor soph or mel. When it was my turn to hot seat I was soph. My group asked me questions such as how do you feel towards leon? How do you feel about your school life and home life? I replied in the character as soph as much as possible. I had a lot of positive feed back on my use of hotseating . Eisa said ‘’ carlie answered the questions well linking back to the script and what we already know about soph and she answered immediately and confident ‘’ In my opinion Jerome Richardson was hot seated outstandingly! Using him sense of emotion very well showing us his emotion by the way he spoke and the way he looked uncomfortable with certain questions . Jerome really played the character breathtakingly when asked the questions. He stayed in character and was very believable. Then we did a role play off text improvisation showing characters feeling before the murder (using thought track) By doing a off text improvisation we are showing out understanding of how much we know about the character. i was mel in the scene so I took all I knew about mel and pretended I was her thinking about how she would act and what she would do.

I see my mother as role model. She is inspirational to me because she is an outgoing, funny and enthusiastic person. My Mother is the person who I go to for advice, she is the right person and I know to go to her right away. I’m the only girl in my family and having three brothers can at times be very difficult.Thinking back through all the struggles and obstacles that have temporarily stood in the way of my happiness, there was always one person who helped me get through whatever hardship I may have been going through at the time; that person was my Mother. My mom always told me â€Å"Don’t let others affect you deeply, because if they do, you’re the one who is going to lose†. What she was trying to let me know there was that I should not let gossip hurt me, because if I, or anyone else, pay attention to others then trouble will be knocking at your front door.I specifically remember one time, when I was in high school as a sophomore and I had a group of friends who just loved talking nonsense about others. If my group of friends saw a girl â€Å"not matching† and wearing a foolish outfit, they would criticize that poor student and laugh at them when they’d pass by. I would be embarrassed of their absurdity, so I would just tell them I had to go to my next class. While this was happening, my so called friends found out that this girl was bothering me.I thought they would tell her to stop bothering me because that’s what friends do right? Well I was wrong, instead of doing that, I found out by my best friends were also talking behind my back. I was enraged by the idea of my friends talking behind my back and I didn’t want it to continue. So I told my mom and dad I was tired of their childish behavior and that I had to take this into my own hands. I told my mom I was going to fight her so she can stop. My mom said that that wasn’t a very well thought out idea.Well eventually I got the chance to fight her, and I took advantage of it. I didn’t listen to what my mom had said the previous day and I paid the consequences for my actions. Those consequences were that I got suspended for an entire week, preventing me to go to my Six Flags Great America trip. Looking back I regret not listening to my mother’s advice, because that same week I would of been having fun at Great America and not at home making up labs for the roller coasters and timing them in a YouTube video.Since that day, I have always listened to my mother’s guidance and intelligence. The best part that I love about my mother is that I can talk to her like she’s my sister, because she acts like one of us my brothers and I; very cool, calm and optimistic. Also what’s funny about us is that we are always told if we’re sisters and my mother would start laughing and say yes to that person and I would get mad. I don’t know why, but I think about it and I shouldn’ t be getting mad.That’s my mother and they’re telling her that she’s a young beautiful woman and it makes me happy when I see her laugh. I love my mother; I can say she is a one of a kind that I would never want to lose.
